Yanis Varoufakis has told France’s Journal Du Dimanche today that he will not be a candidate with Tsipras’ Syriza party in the upcoming elections.
“I will not be a candidate in the name of Syriza,” said Varoufakis, who has strongly criticised the bailout. “Syriza is adopting an irrational doctrine that I have opposed for five years: to further extend the crisis and pretend it is solved, while maintaining a debt that cannot be paid”.
It is anticipated that the likely date for the elections will be on 20 September.
